Marriage

members and apply Chanlo (vermillion) on the groom’s forehead pronouncing a

Mehndi Ceremony

most joyous and entertaining ceremony
that takes place almost 2 days prior to the wedding is mehndi ceremony. In it
henna is applied on the hands of the bride and all bride’s friends comes and a
very lively function of Mehndi takes place. What is unique is that the groom’s
initials need to be incorporated on the bride’s palms with a very creative
pattern. This ceremony marks the great festivities and a lot of carousing takes
place during the event.
Mandap Mahurat
A
very special ceremony that takes place at Gujarati homes and considered to be
sacred is Mandap Mahurat wherein the both the bride and groom will erect the
Mandap. It is considered that by performing these rites both the young souls
are seeking the godly blessings of Mother Earth.
Pithi ceremony
This
is considered to be the reason for the glowing skin on the bride’s face on the
wedding day. The bride is required to sit on a stool and then prepares the
beauty platter wherein a paste of sandalwood and herbs is made which is blessed
by a priest and then applied on the face of the bride.
Garba Masti
Dance
gives the element of fun and frolic and is very essential to fill the
atmosphere with happiness. Garba being the folk dance of Gujarat is performed a
night before the marriage.
Wedding
On
the wedding, a lot of rituals takes place like Ponkvu, Jaimala, Madhuparkha,
Pheras, Saptapadi, vidaai etc.
Post
Wedding Ceremonies
Once
the bride reached the groom's place certain traditional customs takes place like Aeki Beki
where lot of coins and ring is placed in the bowl of milk and honey and the
