Google announced that there has been a “4.7% uptick in the proportion of sites that are mobile friendly” since they informed us two months ago about the Mobile Friendly Update.
Google also said they hope that, now that this algorithm is rolling out, that more sites will go mobile friendly in the near future.
I am honestly a bit surprised the number is only 4.7%, but I guess Google’s index of web pages is pretty large and there are likely a huge number of web pages that are not being maintained but currently still resolving.
It will be interesting to hear, if Google decides to share it, how many sites go mobile friendly within the next two months. Over the past week, there has been a lot more news about this in more of the mainstream press than on industry news sites.
So there you have it: Google saw a ~5% uptick in mobile friendly web sites in their index in just two months. I guess the fear of Mobilegeddon indeed worked.
