Government sector has played a major role in the employment in India since the independence and it has a big part in the overall employment rate in India. Government owned organizations are usually considered as public sector companies and they hire thousands of Indian citizens every year in various sectors.

Though both private and public sector has their role in jobs and employment in India, government jobs are always been a preferred choice for Indian citizens. Railways ministry stays at the top with most number of employment according to year 2009 data. Most of the candidates preparing for govt jobs in India, aim for Railway jobs as the opportunities are highest in this sector.

Public banking Sector Jobs
Talking about public sector banks in India, they employ over 7 lakh Indian citizens at present. The interesting fact is that many of these people will be retiring in upcoming years and banks will hire bulk of Indian citizens to fill these posts. The largest public sector bank of India SBI (State Bank of India) recruits thousands of candidates every year no matter what the economic situation is.
Currently, each public sector bank conducts their own recruitment exam for recruitment of candidates in their bank. The basic criteria to join a bank are graduation in most of the public sector banks. Many banks even recruit directly for sr. management and other posts. As about salary, compensation in a government job is always higher than that offered in a private job.
