Sony Xperia T3

The Xperia Z2 is a fine smartphone, but at €600 or £540 it is quite an expensive device. But if you want a big screen Sony but you don’t want the big price tag, then perhaps the Sony Xperia T3 is the smartphone you are looking for.
Superficially, the Xperia T3 looks rather like the Z2 (although a little larger) with a 5.3″ TRILUMINOS display and an elegant stainless steel frame. But despite the family resemblance, the Xperia T3 is a much less powerful but much cheaper device.

The large 5.3″ display is a 720 x 1280 pixel panel, on the back of the Xperia T3 is a pretty standard 8 megapixel camera with 1080p video recording, plus there is a 720p camera on the front. Inside is a quad-core 1.4GHz processor with 1GB of RAM and 8GB of flash storage plus a microSD slot. The Xperia T3 is an LTE-capableAndroid 4.4 smartphone that also supports NFC and all the usual Sony smartphone features.
Inside is a 2500 mAh battery, and the Xperia T3 is a very slim device measuring 151 x 77 x 7mm and coming in at 148 grams in weight.

It’s more a midrange device than the high-end Z2, and in our view the processor speed, storage and RAM is rather limited but on the other hand you do get a lovely big display and LTE high-speed data support. And it certainly looks like a premium device, even if the price tag will be more modest.
We don’t know how much the Xperia T3 will cost, but at a guess it will be something in the region of half to two-thirds of the cost of the Z2. Sony say that the Xperia T3 will launch globally from July 2014 in white, purple and black colours.
