Why are you being selfish?

As I was surfing Facebook, looking for new followers for my fanpage, I noticed the massive amount of entrepreneurs online promoting their businesses. The one thing that struck me the most about each one of them, they were being selfish.

The definition of selfish is placing concern with one’s own interests above the well being of others.

So, what does this mean, really?

Well, it means that selfish entrepreneurs are trying to capitalize for themselves rather than finding the time to build relationships. This is what I recognized on Facebook. Now, I can’t say that Facebook was the only social site I saw the same pattern because there were others.

You’re probably saying to yourself, “I don’t want to build a relationships, I want to make money”. So does a million other entrepreneurs. I have good news for you. It is okay to want to make money online but before you do you have to give a reason why anyone should trust you by building relationships. From my experience it really isn’t as hard as you might think it is.

I have been a car sales person for a few years now and have learned a few things about selling and making strictly commission. First, the only way anyone was going to allow me to help them spend their money would be to build a solid relationship with them. This means becoming their friend, fulfill their needs and wants and most important one of all is honesty. Even if they didn’t buy from me that day they gained a friend and come back to purchase from me later on down the road.

Second, I would have to follow up with them on a regular basis either from a phone call, email or a simple snail mail just to say hi. You don’t have to pitch them anything. Just follow up with a hi, Happy Birthday, or Happy Holidays. You can even ask for a referral. People are not stupid. so, If you throw them a pitch they will delete you or ask you not to call again. You don’t want that, do you?

Facebook and any other social network you may be a member of are great places to promote yourself. But first get permission to email them. Second, give them valuable information to help them succeed. Third, get to know their needs and wants.

We all have our own businesses to promote but if want to make massive amounts of income then we need to start by putting away our selfishness and start using are other attribute called SELFLESSNESS.
