My Failure as a Motivational Speaker

Motivation

I wanted to be a motivational speaker for some reason. I started down the mimic road of following everyone known and unknown to gather a successful path.

Now I felt I could do this with ease…it didn’t turn out like that, in fact, it was a nightmare! I was horrible to say the least.

The first time I got on stage I was too nervous and rushed things as I wished the moment would end quickly.

The second time I got on stage the host started clapping loudly as he walked across the stage and took the mic away from me! Embarrassing, I never felt so bad in those moments.

The third time, I had everything going to perfection…I had studied the audience who signed up through Facebook and a highly paid writer from New York City. I couldn’t deliver another person’s message so I got booed off (not really but felt like it)!

“I’m done” I said to myself. No way was I going to do it again, and then…I got a call. I was told that I would be speaking before someone famous in the industry. I had to do this one!

But, I have everything down this time.  This was a second gig for the “big time” speaker and there was only supposed to be 50 people at this event.

He was going to have a few thousand people appearance earlier in that day. He was going from 12pm to 3pm then going to speak at our event at 8pm which actually started at 6pm.

So I and 3 others were going to fill in for the two hours which I would have 45 minutes to do my thing right before he comes on.

That is what was supposed to happen…

How I became the Big Marquee Speaker in Front of Hundreds?

Now the big famous guy had his gig canceled so he invited everyone go our event. They changed the time to 3pm and I was going to be the only other speaker before him for 3 hours.

No one told me until two hours before show time. This was a dirty hand of fate handed to me. I had planned 20 minutes of talking and 20 minutes of introduction!

I was going to fail! Then I thought that I’m going out in style so instead of not showing up I was going to crap out with dignity.

I got on stage and I told everyone that I was going to fail and why. I guided them through my journey with the previous attempts in this field.

I proceeded to talk about what I knew…making money online. I began to talk about the people lives I had entered that had made it and didn’t do so well but never thought about giving up.

I then asked the original people that were supposed to be at this meeting to stand up. I went down the line and told each of them what I feel they should do a bit differently from there I turned over the mic to the main speaker.

He asked for another mic then asked me to come back out. I answered a dozen of questions from him and the audience about online stuff. It was an interesting night indeed.

Thanks for your time

Mike
