All about VoIP, in a nutshell.
What is VoIP?
Voice over Internet Protocol (Voip Call) is a methodology and group of technologies for the delivery of voice communications and multimedia sessions over Internet
Protocol (IP) networks, such as the Internet. Some other terms commonly associated with VoIP are IP telephony, Internet telephony, voice over broadband (VoBB),
broadband telephony, IP communications, and broadband phone service. It converts the voice signals into the packets of digital data. VoIP technology supports the two way
conversation by using the voice over the internet protocol. Businesses around the world are implementing VoIP solutions due to its great features and low price.
How does VoIP work?
Major companies provide a plug and play, hassle free experience, with the client needing to only find space to setup a small box of hardware somewhere on the
site connected to the computer network. All of the heavy lifting is done off-site.
A regular wired phone: To connect to a VoIP system, each phone is plugged into a bridging device, known as analog terminal adapter (ATA). The simplest type of
ATA has two sockets: a phone socket and the other to plug into your computer network.
A dedicated digital phone: These all-in-one devices plug straight into your network, with no need of a bridging device. Because theyâre designed to work with
your VoIP system, they often are equipped with extra buttons to control special features â for example, there may be a âcall backâ button.
A softphone: This is VoIP software that runs on your PC, Mac, smart-phone or tablet. Skype is one program that most people think of when it comes to VoIP, but
other VoIP systems do also work with software-only phones.
How Scalable is VoIP solution?
Voice over IP (VoIP) is finally coming into its own as both businesses and residential customers recognize the advantages of using their high speed Internet
connections to provide low-cost long distance telephone service. Call quality and reliability have greatly been improved and attractive pricing plans are
available. Small businesses may be tempted by VoIP plans marketed for consumers. With unlimited calling for less than $20/month, a VoIP line costs less than a
basic residential phone line in many locations. Many cable companies are also getting into the act and the competition is enforcing prices to be lower and lower.
VoIP advantages?
Business VoIP services are significantly less expensive than traditional phone services. The low cost of VoIP is its biggest attraction.
Scalability is another boon. Adding new extensions to a VoIP network is typically as easy as connecting your SIP-enabled phone to the network and tinkering with
some software settings would suffice, rather than dealing with costly hardware components.
VoIP disadvantages?
If your power does go out, a land-line phone continues to work because your phone is powered by the phone company, not your building areaâs power. However, with
VoIP, there's no service if no power. A traditional phone and/or a cellphone comes in handy as a backup.
VoIP is a land-line, cell phone rival. Likewise the quality can suffer because of poor network, poor, spotty connection.
At BareVoIP we deliver customizable VoIP solutions that allow you to make and receive virtually unlimited crystal-clear calls for one low price.
And make your Business easy & enjoyable.
