Halal Food : An encyclopedia of What we Love to Eat
As we all know halal meat is permissible meat. There are two kinds of meat in the muslim sharia. Halal, the permissible one and haram, the not permissible one. When halal meat is sold there is a symbol ‘H’ mentioned inside a triangle. Even kosher symbols like UD, V, U, COR, K, KD or KMH are there through which one can know whether the meat is halal or not. Halal meat has a typical procedure involved in it. There has to be muslim butcher who slits the throat of the animal to be butchered. He has to take the name of Allah before he does the process and has to take care that the spine of the animal is not damaged. Once all the blood runs out of the body, only then can he chop the animal into pieces.
There are a variety of shops that sell Halal meat and the above mentioned symbol makes it easy to recognize it. Though, sometimes there have been issues with the authenticity of the Halal Meat. It is always advisable to enquire from the manufacturer, whether the meat is halal or not. Even sometimes it so happens that the meat is halal but the process ingredients are haram and not mentioned. As for haram foods there is a list of them too which the muslims avoid consuming. These foods include alcohol beverages like Rum flavor, beer batter, wine, soya sauce, natural flavor, alcohol and more. Also, the ingredients which are plant or grain based but the carrier is pig based like the BHA/BHT and beta carotene (pig gelatin). The other Haram ingredients include caseinates, whey and lactose also which are dairy ingredients that are created from pork enzymes. Hence, if you find something doubtful, stay away from it. The word for the same in Arabic is Musbooh and the foods or ingredients whose sources are difficult to know come under this category. One example of it is Yeast.
There are many restaurants that serve Halal Food and Food Products. There is this halal symbol which helps you identify if the meat they are selling is halal or not. But, if there is any doubt, you can simply verify from the owner of the shop or the decision making authorities. Still, if you are in any sort of doubt just don’t have it. Also, when buying halal meat buy from reliable stores only. There are many stores that are into the business from decades. Buy meat from such reliable stores. Also, enquire from relatives who have been buying halal meat in case you are new to a place for quality halal meat availability.
