These days the world is a smaller and much more accessible place and there is plenty of choice available to families that want to take a holiday, no matter how old their kids may be. One type that remains a firm favorite of those with kids though is the camping holiday. First timers may be a little apprehensive about how much the kids will enjoy it and how they will keep them happy and entertained because they are unsure of what to expect. But there are things that you can do before even leaving the house to help make the trip a success. The following list of the top 3 things to pack for kids going on a camping holiday will ensure that you are prepared and your kids stay happy.

1.Toys and Games – kids young and old love their electronic gadgets, but they are not the best thing to bring along on a camping holiday. To start with batteries will quickly run low and you will have no way of recharging them, also the gadgets run a much higher risk of being broken, simply because things get kicked around more when living in a tent. Go back to basics and bring things that you can all enjoy together. Dust off the board games and story books and ask the kids to think of two items that they want to bring that doesn’t rely on a plug in charger.

2.Clothing – Depending on where you plan to go camping you will probably need to take a good variety of clothing with you. Wet weather gear is essential if you don’t want to be stuck in your tent and you should also take plenty of changes of shorts and t-shirts so that kids can freely run around without worrying about getting dirty. Also be sure to take along warm childrens pyjamas, even if you are going to a hot destination. It gets cold at night when you are camping, so good quality childrens sleepwear made from a warm material is essential.

3.Adventure Kit – Buy each of the kids a rucksack and fill it with things like a torch, disposable camera, picture book of plants or wild life, flask, treasure box, etc. Explain what each of the items in the bag is and does and tell them that you will be planning adventures where they will have to look for certain plants, collect a list of items to fill their treasure box and so on. They will be sure to want to take their rucksack with them wherever they go, which is also a great way of making sure that they always have a drink handy and a torch for the night time.

Camping really is great way to spend time as a family because you can leave your fast paced life behind for a while. Ensure that you are fully prepared and you will soon find yourself counting down the days until you can pack the car and take off on your next camping adventure!
