Wan is standing by wide area network, as its name is indicating it supports wide area. We can understand that it will cover large geographical area such as state, province, or country. Wide is connecting multiple large area networks with each other. Sharing of resources and application will be same only, but it will be taking place on a large scale.

A man is standing by metro area network, now by the reference of previous few terms we can understand it will connect and allow communication between multiple wide area network and these wide area networks will connect a large area network means these technologies are taking place on a very large scale.
