Stepwise procedure
Find a remnant piece : Remnants from the carpet make your job easy. If no remnant can be found fro the carpet then cut a small portion from its back or other out-of-the way space so as to provide a repair.
Trim the repair piece : place an empty can on this piece and press down so that the rim could make a clear impression. Then this piece should be cut down with the help of a utility knife.
Mark the nap’s direction : A tape marked with an arrow is used which shows the direction of the carpet’s nap on the repair piece. Then another marked tape is used to identify the direction of nap near the area that has been damaged.
Outline the damaged area : Once again use the same can and press it firmly over the damaged area.
Remove the damaged area : Carefully cut this outlined area with the help of a knife. The cut out area should be kept small.
Insert the carpet tape : Cut the tape of length 2 to 3 inches wider than that of cut-out-area. Then carefully insert this piece of tape into the carpet area. @ pieces of tape would be required to cover the whole cut-out-area.
Insert the replacement piece : Place the cut-out-area back to its position once the tape has been correctly placed by taking the direction of arrow into consideration.
Trim extra fibers : Once your piece is again positioned, cut the longer fibers that are uneven on the surface. Scissors could be used for trimming.
Press the repair piece : In order to ensure proper placement of the piece at its position, place furniture or a stack of books on it for 1 or 2 days.
