By allowing the masses (or anyone who knows about these types of deals) a free or majorly discounted trial offer, the companies have significantly increased their odds of people liking their products and services and choosing to continue with their service after the trial period is over. It is worth it to them to have consumers try the product for free or on a discount rather than waste a lot of money on advertising that most people won’t have any exposure to.
