The Work by Byron Katie is a method to learn to love reality.

Byron Katie's first book about The Work is titled "Loving What Is." That concept is at the heart of her method, which consists of questioning the beliefs that make you uncomfortable. In this article, I will show quotes about the book "Who Would You Be Without Your Story?" that I'm currently reading. If you want to know more about The Work, you can read my other posts about it, here and here.

The Work is "not a world of positive affirmations"

Forget positive thinking. Saying repeatedly "I love my mother" is useless if you get stressed or angry thinking of her. Instead, use The Work's four questions then do the turnarounds. Be honest with yourself when doing it. Really honest. To use another quote from the book: "Every time you answer a question honestly, your own truth sets you free."

The Work asks you to "drop your story"

What Byron Katie calls "your story" is your "belief system". The more you apply The Work to your stressful thoughts, the more you'll see that "Ultimately people have no power over me", and "people are whoever you believe them to be."

"You're at war with reality"

"Defense is the first act of war." It's another way of saying that, to avoid a war, leave the battlefield. The more you read about The Work, the better you'll understand what it means to love what is, i.e. to simply accept that whatever happened should have.

Don't take shortcuts
