The cause of all wars
What is behind all wars?
Recently, a friend told me religion causes all wars. She’s a Law Of Attraction fan. She also told me christians are hypocrites. I guess she forgot for a second that I’m Catholic.
December 7 is called “The Day of Infamy” by americans. They remember the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor on that day, in 1941, without provocation or declaration of war. If you speak to an american, it justifies sending an atomic bomb a few years later. On one hand, I guess that bomb helped prevent more deaths, since it ended the war. On the other hand, this could be considered overkill, no pun intended.
The funny thing is, the Japanese don’t see the Pearl Harbor in the same light. As a matter of fact, they don’t even talk about it. If you mention it to them, they won’t attach too much importance to it. Same thing if you mention Hiroshima and Nagasaki to Americans. They might even yawn.
Who’s right? I can’t tell. In my opinion, we should move on, instead of bringing forth such negative events every year. I don’t think it “helps us remember our past mistakes”. If it did, why would there still be wars?
The explanation is simple: the brain is behind all wars. Not our thoughts, our feelings, our values. These changes so many times every day. We are able to go from peace of mind to rage to uncontrollable laughter within moments. Literally. The best example I can give you is of the person who is standing quietly in a bus. She’s hit from behind. She turns back to yell or retaliate, only to see it’s a blind man who apologizes. He might then comment on something funny, and you laugh out loud. All this within a minute.
Here’s another example. I am preoccupied with a situation that might
turn stressful at the job. Then I see a drop dead gorgeous woman, and I
can’t help staring at her. Since I was also reading a magazine, I get
back to it and turn the page. I see a red car. It depresses me because
my dad died in an accident driving a red car, it happened thirty years
ago. It still hurts a lot. By the way, this is an example, I'm not talking about myself here.
In my opinion, the best way to understand how our brain works, and how to overcome the processes that cause wars, hate and depression, is to read about PRI, Past Reality Integration. I wrote a post to introduce it here.
