Nokia 5250
Quite why the Nokia 5250 carries an old-style model name like this is puzzling. Nokia changed the naming convention for its phones about 6 months ago, which perhaps indicates that the 5250 has spent some time stuck in development.
This is a Symbian^1 smartphone (which used to be called S60 5th Edition) which comes with a copy of Guitar Hero 5 Mobile pre-installed and a set of social networking applications. Because this is a smartphone, you can add new apps from the Ovi store.
Other features include a 2 megapixel camera on the back, microSD expandable memory, Bluetooth, a 3.5mm audio socket and the standard sales package also includes a stereo wired headset. The relatively large 1000 mAh battery provides up to 7.7 hours talktime and 18.5 days standby time.
It looks like pretty good value, but you can also buy the less stylish but more powerful Nokia 5230 for the same price.. and the 5230 also comes with 3.5G support and GPS plus a bigger display, and it still has access to the same range of software via the Ovi store.
We guess that Nokia are trying to compete with devices such as the popular Samsung Corby with this, and it is certainly a more attractive proposition than many low-end touchscreen phones. But we would recommend checking out last year’s 5230 as well, which is certainly attractively priced right at the moment and looks like a better deal.
The Nokia 5250 should be available during Q4 2010 in grey, blue, red, purple and white colour schemes.
