Water constitutes approximately 66 percent of the human body. Without this vital liquid, your body would fail to do many of the most simple and complex processes. Hydration
Water hydrates your body and is the basis of saliva and fluids surrounding the joints. Hydration is particularly important if you are exercising, as you lose water due to perspiration. Joy Bauer suggests in her book "The Complete Idiot's Guide to Total Nutrition" to drink 16 to 24 oz. of water 2 hours prior to exercise to prevent dehydration, which can lead to fainting and vomiting. The color of your urine is a useful indicator of your hydration levels. A clear to pale-yellow hue is desirable, but a dark and concentrated tint means you should be drinking more.
