The Money Question… How much have you made?

It amazing how many people in network marketing and MLM are terrified of this little question.  Such a simple little question “How much have you made?”

Let me say straight up that if it scares you then you are in the wrong position with the person who is asking you that question!  The answer is always an unequivocal  “Not really sure, I’m still getting paid for my first week when I started and I have not met my goal of “X” million per week yet, that is why I am here with you today.”

If you get the question from a prospect then you are trying to “sell” them because they will only ask that question if they have any doubts as to the industry, product, company, ability to do it or YOU!  And if that is the case then you have no business talking business with them in the first place.

Now back to the answer, if you go to work for a restaurant and you are being paid $10.00 an hour… how much have you made on that first day?  Nothing, payday is 2 weeks away.  You work for the first week and are sick the second week, suddenly the “projected income” of $10 per hour for 40 hours a week is only 1/2 of what you actually earned.  Or perhaps you did some overtime and earned more.

First off… you can not say what your earnings are because they can change in the blink of an eye and you are always “owed” money by the company, add to that little expenses like uniforms or union dues and poof all income projections go out the window.  The same holds true in Network marketing and MLM.

Secondly other than the IRS it is nobody damn business how much money you have or are making!  Unless you’re a doctor would you go asking someone how often they change their underwear?  Its personal and down right rude to ask.

Lastly and most importantly is the point I made originally.  If the person is not coming to you because you have built a relationship of trust and authority with them, you have no business talking to them.  A person who trusts you may ask the question after the fact but it is unlikely as they will, out of respect, they would be disinclined to do so.

On the other hand someone who is not convinced of the idea that network marketing or MLM is a “real” job, a person who does not fully trust you as an authority or any one of several other reasons, will need to be sold on the concept and will ask such a question.

Ray Kroc bought a small restaurant chain that sold a lot of hamburgers before he franchised it.  Nobody asked him if he made money from it before he sold them a franchise, as a matter of fact he is quoted as saying “I was an overnight success all right, but 30 years is a long, long night.”

Build relationships and you will build your business.

P.S. Note to all super salesman out there.  Yes you can “sell” someone on a business plan but as long as they can not duplicate you, they will leave again almost as fast as you talked them into it.
