The Importance of Selecting a Niche

If the Internet is a vast ocean to be explored and your Internet business is your boat, your niche is undoubtedly your rudder. The niche that you select and use for your marketing efforts will determine exactly where you go with your business.

Finding a profitable niche is so important that this entire lesson is focused on making sure that your niche has enough traffic and profit potential to make the foundation of a good business.

There are many methods revealed in this lesson that will help you figure out which niches you should be pursuing based on your interests, the market's interests and how much money can be made.

That being said, it's important to keep in mind that you may not hit the jackpot the first time with a niche. You may find a niche that you believe will be a goldmine only to find out there is some other mitigating factor that will make it impossible for you to make money like you expected to.

If this happens to you...don't worry! It's all part of the process. Sometimes a niche will do great. Other times it might not perform as expected. If you look at the success of your online business in overall terms instead of just a project at a time, you'll have the right perspective. You may have ten sites and six are making money while four aren't doing so well. What if you had stopped at those first four?

Internet marketing, like life, is all about persevering.

The people who quit after just one niche or one site aren't going to be successful.

You need to work the law of averages and keep working at the system. Even with the best niche research, you can't be sure until you get your site out there and get it to start making money.

Niche research is an important first step in the process, but don't freak out if you don't get the right niche the first time. Consider that your practice site and learn from it. Then move on and find your next niche to create your winning site.

With Internet marketing, the risk is very low because it doesn't cost that much to start over with a new site. At the minimum, you'll have to pay for a new domain name and maybe some hosting. When you compare that to the costs that are involved with running an offline business, starting over with a new website is no big deal.

The process of finding a niche starts with determining what you are selling and who you are selling it to. Without these two elements, you don't have a profitable business. It doesn't matter if you have a great product if there is not a hungry market to buy it. The same goes for having a target market and no product to sell.
