Turkish language Anekdote
The Turkish language is difficult. Except from some modern words like taxi (they write taksi) is has no resemblance to any language i know. When you pronounce a word wrong it gets a different meaning as we experienced in a Turkish shop for musical instruments.
A friend of ours asked us to buy him a Turkish flute. OK, we said, how is that called in Turkish? He said it was called a Zurna with the accent on the first syllable.
During our vacation we found a shop selling musical instruments. In the shop there was a Turkish man about 75 of age. He only could speak Turkish. No problem. I asked: Zurna? He had to laugh but came back with the flute. We told a Turkish friend that also speaks Dutch about the incident.
He had to laugh too. He explained that Zurna with the accent on the second syllable means the Turkish flute. However, I asked for Zurna with the accent on the first syllable. LOL basically I asked that man "Blow job?" No wonder he laughed. Not many will ask that a 75 year old, i guess i made his day.
