Rims Complete the LOOK!

I have always had a great appreciation for good looking cars. My older brother, Dan would take old VW's and cut them down and make them into dune buggy's. I learned how to drive way before I had a drivers license by driving those dune buggy's through the back wooded trails.

Dan bought a 1956 VW and decided to restore it. He did all of the body work himself, he painted it a burnt orange. It turned out beautiful. Mom helped him with the interior. They choose grey fur, it was the coolest car I ever saw.

You had to keep track of how much gas you put in the tank and how many miles you drove because it either didn't have a gas gage or if it did it didn't work. It has been so long ago I can't recall that minor detail. We had a pad of paper to keep track but we also had a rod that we would stick into the tank to see how much gas remained. I remember running out of gas often, and I am certain it was always my fault.... isn't it always?

This 1956 VW had an tiny oval window in the back.

Dan redid a Camaro that he was very proud of but in no way was it as cool as this 1956 brunt orange with grey fur interior VW Beetle.

One thing that all these cars had even the dune buggy's had in common was they all had great looking rims. The additional expense completed the LOOK!

I bought my first car at 16, it was a beige VW. It too had to have great wheels to complete the look. A year later I graduated from high school and I loaded all of my worldly processions in the back of that VW and headed West.

I got a job at a private country club and I was making good money. It was time to buy a new car.

The Datsun 240Z car had just come out so I of course had to have one of those. The Datsun dealer told me he didn't think that I could afford it and that was all it took to prove him wrong. I bought the one he was driving and he got a new one. I bought a 1972 Datsun 240Z car.... do you think I looked HOT? You bet I did. And of course to make it complete... I bought sharp looking rims.

I still love to look at cars and of course the rims that make the look complete. I often wonder what ever happened to that 1956 brunt orange, fur interior VW Bug.... Gosh I loved that car. If you see it please let me know. It was a one of a kind for sure.
