The grasshopper

15 years ago, I was an Amway distributor. I stayed in that MLM for a year. I spent a lot of money, buying motivational products, going to conventions, showing the plan 20 times without making a single sale.

I remember a few gems. There were a lot of good stories being told by the successful distributors.

One of the stories that stayed imprinted in my mind is the following one.

There was this man who wanted to make money with a show involving grasshoppers.

He worked endlessly with the grasshoppers he had captured. The first trick he wanted to teach them was to jump all together and reach the same height.

After a few tries, he was getting some results. Then, one grasshopper started jumping higher than the others. The man tried to find a way to convince that rebellious grasshopper to do the same thing as the others. Well, as you might have guessed, grasshoppers have a limited intelligence. :)

The man had an inspiration. He put the grasshoppers in a jar, all together. Whenever the grasshoppers jumped, the rebellious one was hitting its head against the top. After some time, it got back in line.

The man went back to finish training for the trick. After a few times, he started to notice the same grasshopper jumping higher and higher. As he was wondering what to do, the other grasshoppers all shouted in unison :

"PUT IT BACK IN THE JAR !"
