According to a Betty Crocker post on my Facebook page today, Whoopie Pies are sweeping the nation--as if they were something new....

In case you have no idea what Whoopie Pies are, here is the Wikipedia definition:

A whoopie pie (alternatively called a gob, black-and-white, bob, or "BFO" for Big Fat Oreo) is a baked good made of two round mound-shaped pieces of chocolate cake, sometimes pumpkin cake, with a sweet, creamy frosting sandwiched between them.[1] While considered a New England phenomenon and a Pennsylvania Amish tradition,[2] they are increasingly sold throughout the United States.[1] According to food historians, Amish women would bake these (known as hucklebucks at the time) and put them in farmers' lunchboxes. When farmers would find these treats in their lunch, they would shout "Whoopie!"[1].

I had my first taste of Whoopie Pie when I was about 4 years old--over 55 years ago now--time flies when you're having fun!!  My "Aunt" Eleanor baked these treats quite often and I was especially happy to be at her house the day she was making them.  Yum Yum.

The cake of a Whoopie Pie is usually chocolate but may also be pumkin (a good choice for this time of year) or red velvet or could be any cake flavor you like best.

Just a bit of great food trivia for you to "chew" on and digest ;-)
