Many people lost their jobs and/or have trouble coming by till the next month. There was a time when I also had to turn every penny. I have some tricks for you.

  • Now matter how good the offer, if you do not need it, it is always too expensive
  • Impulse buying: when you see something in the shop recalculate the price to how many hours you would have to work to earn that amount; after you do that many items will look far less appealing.
  • Why buy everything new? you can save a lot by buying second hand stuff. For example baby furniture: the baby won't notice the difference and will sleep just as good.
  • Clothing for kids: buy garments ( like winter jackets) in sales a size bigger for next year
  • Clothing for kids tip 2:  when you kids play and fall there will be a hole in the trousers regardless if they costed 10 dollars or 100 dollars.
  • Clothes for teenagers: teenagers love brands like levis, lois etc. they often hate clothes from the discount. I sometimes saved the labels and sewed them in in discount trousers. never told them of  course
  • House brands in groceries are always cheaper and often just as good. In shops A-brands are always on eye height, the cheaper brands at the bottom
  • Never do groceries with an empty stomach. This will prevent you from buying candy when standing in line to pay.
  • Meat: buy greater portions and repack to smaller ones and than put in freezer
  • Grocery shops often price down meat when it is about to reach expire date to sell. Nothing wrong with it. Buy and prepare the same day or put it in the freezer.
  • Do not use credit cards unless you have to, you easily lose track . Buying at online stores paying in monthly rates is always more expensive.
  • Last tip: teach these tips to your children at a very young age because economy will not get any better soon. Teach them the value of money and that every dollar can be spent only once. You are not doing your children a favor by giving them anything they want (even if you can afford it). Do not give them extra pocket money when they come short (their boss won't give them any extra salary when they are grown up). I thought my own children these lessons, they are grown up know, own their own home and are debt free execpt for the mortgage of their home.
