The Power Went Out!!

All winter we had not had a power-outage. So when the power went out suddenly on a calm late spring evening in May, it was quite a surprise. The winter before last we lost power several times, Once it was for 5 days, that was no fun. That was the closest thing to camping I ever want to get.

By the reaction from my husband and my mother-in-law to this little bleep in life, you would have thought the end of the earth was about to take place. NO TV????  How will I READ????

The neighbor called and informed me that she had called the electric company and a recording said they were aware of our outage and that the estimated time for power to return would be about 3 hours. HHCTB?

I really was not to worried because I knew that the other side of town was without power for 8 hours the night before. Burned out transformer, whatever that means.

After gathering and lighting oil lamps and candles and getting extra batteries out, my husband asked if my laptop was charged up. No problem, he was all set for a night of games of solitaire.

I went to bed. Before I drifted off to sleep in total darkness I had to chuckle to myself about how frantic those 2 were about not having power. After all, 3 hours is nothing, especially when your sleeping.

Throughout the night I could hear generators running. as night wore on I could hear more generators starting up in the distance. I awoke at about 4:30 to let the dogs out and put on the coffee. Then it HIT ME!!  NO COFFEE???   Worse yet, No internet!!!

My routine is to put on the coffee feed the critters and when the coffee is done I sit at my computer to see what happened while I was sleeping. I return emails and Skype's. This morning was a bit different. I stumbled over the critters and fumbled in the garage for the camp stove to heat water.

My neighbor called to once again update me on the situation, "no crew had been dispatched to our area yet. There were 80 homes still without power and we were 2 of them. I am not looking forward to the 2 grouches waking and sharing that news with them.

In the mean time I am going back to the garage to heat more water for another cup of instance coffee. At the moment I have lemons I am going to make some lemonade.
