Affiliate Marketing in a nutshell is simply the evolution of the commissioned salesmen. In the old days, a commissioned salesperson was an employee standing on a car lot or in a real estate office generating prospects and closing deals. This generation has created the affiliate marketer, which is technically the same thing as a commissioned salesperson with the difference that the affiliate marketer does 100% of their sales online.
In the old days, the commission salesmen could only generate leads by running ads in a newspaper or putting up flyers promoting their product or service. Today the affiliate marketer can use an entire toolbox of online advertising options to bring customers into his/her sphere of influence. Todays affiliate marketer does not need to stand in a car lot, or punch a time clock. Today's version of the commissioned salesmen has leveraged off of technology and is able to make their money from the comfort of their home office.
The rules however are still the same: product must be moved before the affiliate marketer can make money. The affiliate marketer must be able to sell to be able to make a living doing what they are doing. While a lot of the manual aspects of the sales process have been automated, the truth remains that people will only buy from people they know and like, and in todays affiliate marketing landscape..the 'marketer' has lost sight of this simple truth.
There has been a number of 'automated sales systems' and 'autopilot' systems put into effect that people have lost sight of what truly sells products in mass...personal communication and one on one contact. Until the affiliate marketer is able to reach their prospects in a face to face manner online, massive sales are impossible to reach.
Some new techniques and strategies have been developed to try and offset this weakness in todays sales force such as 'Personal Branding,' audio enabled websites, and sales sites loaded with pictures and customized for the targeted traffic that would be delivered to that site. None of these things have replaced the trust that can be developed by one on one personal communication.
To truly dominate as an affiliate marketer online, one must master personal communication in business, it is the true key to success. If there is no personal communication then affiliate marketing becomes a numbers game, and this is the game you see most of the gurus and marketing 'experts' playing. They build their lists as big as possible so their promotions and products have the largest possible reach. While this technique does work, you can have the same level of success with a much smaller 'list' simply by utilizing personal contact with your prospects and potential customers.
In a nutshell, personal communication must be a staple of all business, including those that are completely online. There is no automated system, or autopilot system that will replace the power of personal touch in people.
