What I advise clients to look for in restoration coverage, is the term ‘Limited Power of Attorney.’  This means the service providers licensed investigator can actually act on your behalf and get the work done with the least amount of involvement on your part.  Most consumers are NOT trained in the protocols of identity theft restoration and there are few if any community college offering classes in ‘Identity Theft Restoration 101.’

The Limited Power of Attorney is part of the customized ID Recovery Kit

The identity theft protection industry has become the wild wild west.  NEW companies popping up like weeds in an attempt to cash in on the media attention surrounding this subject.    Establish  strict criteria when evaluating identity theft protection programs. The first of which is…

•         looking for organizations that have been around for more than 5 years and have been put to the fire and stood the test of time.  Which is a tall order when you consider that most of the companies that offer identity theft protection services have just popped up in the last 24-36 months.

Here is a little about our main strategic partner:

·        a global leader with nearly 35 years of experience.

·        A publically traded billion dollar international leader.

·        The company has approximately 3,000 employees throughout the United States and in 14 countries across Europe.

·        They are recognized as a premiere security, credit monitoring and identity theft protection innovator.

·        They launched HotLine, a leading ID theft, credit card, fraud protection and security service in 1969.

·        PrivacyGuard, a comprehensive membership credit monitoring product which was created in 1992, remains one of the largest in the U.S.

·        In 2006, ID Secure, a sophisticated tool that uses leading-edge public records, Social Security number and credit monitoring technology to fight ID theft, was born.

•        Depth of knowledge is important when you are dealing with a person’s most valuable asset next to their good health.  Who is actually providing the service\recovery for the victim.  Are the Customer Service Rep’s in an outsourced call center in another part of the globe or are they licensed investigators with former law enforcement experience?

I fully agree with the above statement, which is why we partner with partners who have longevity and are recognized as the leaders in their areas of expertise.

•        Most of the organizations offering these types of services lack the infrastructure of experienced personnel to service the ‘whole client’.

This is a marketing statement and is not based in facts. Any company who lacks the infrastructure or experienced personnel would be out of business and would not have a client base.

•       We also tend to favor publicly traded companies because they have higher accountability due to compliance with Sarbanes Oxley and the SEC.

Publically traded companies can be good.  However, the statement of “Higher accountability due to compliance with Sarbanes Oxley and the SEC.” is irrelevant to serving the client. At this time the Government does not have the man power to monitor companies under any of the privacy acts passed by congress over the last few years i.e. Sarbanes Oxley, GLBA, or HIPPA. As for the SEC, they are there to protect shareholders, not clients of companies. And as we all know they sure haven’t been doing much to protect anyone over the last few years.
