Hello, Today I am You
Hello Mr About to have AIDS,
I wanted to take a moment to thank you for your generosity. You see yesterday I was someone else and today I am you. Yes, I am now you. You made it easy for me by tossing out all your old hospital bills in the garbage yesterday. Those old bills allowed me to become you.
You see they had your name and address and your insurance policy numbers. You didn't shred it first like your neighbors so it was easy for me to take it. After all when you put your garbage out it's abandoned property so I wasn't even committing a crime at that point. I will however commit a crime today.
I want to get treatment for my HIV but it is expensive and I don't have insurance. Since you were willing to share yours I'm on my way to the hospital right now. And guess what, my HIV won't even show up on my medical history but yours. So allow me to apologize in advance for all the problems this will cause you in the future.
Sincerely,
I. M. You
Hello Mrs Screwed,
I come to this country to work. The human smuggler say there is much work here and I hard worker. So I come, but they not let me work. They say I need social security number. I talk to others who come and they give me name of man who sell me the number. I had to pay a lot of money for number. But now I have number I can get job and paycheck. They tell me to let others come to this country know where they can get number too. They also tell me they pay $150 everytime I find new number for them. I make lots of money now.
Yo, Dude!
Just wanted to let you know I got in the club last night! I had an awesome time, shaking it with the hotties and downing the Budweisers. To bad about the pig that pulled me over. Just cause I was weaving a little on the way home. Well I guess it's for the best since the 'rents would have killed me if I came home wasted. Luckily I used your driver's license to get in the club. Well I fixed those cops. LOL! I gave them your license when they arrested me. As soon as I'm out of this lockup I'm clear! Dude you're the one who got the DUI!
Party on!
None of these letters are real, but the sentiments in them are. An Identity thief won't send you a thank you letter but you can bet somewhere a thief has caused these situations to be set in motion by stealing an identity. It's not about the money folks, it's about using your information for their gain at your expense.
