Purpose of Blue Diagonal Lines...

It has not been quite a month since we had my husband mother
move in with us from the nursing home. She suffered a stroke over a year ago
and has very limited mobility on her left side.
Our home has been remodeled to be able to take care of her.

This past week was the first time since she has been here that we have
had to venture out to get her to her Doctor appointment. I have been getting lots of
practice with transferring in our home but transferring from the wheelchair
to the car and from the car to the wheelchair was still a bit scary. The door must be
opened all the way and the wheelchair must be placed right in the crook and I have
to be in right next to the door hinges. This is so that I am able to hang onto her and
help her stand/get her balance and guide the pivot onto the cars seat. We did pretty
good getting into the car, we were both pleased.

I pulled into the handicapped parking space in front of the Dr.'s office and was getting
the wheelchair out of the back of the car when a car whipped into the spot next to us
parking on the blue diagonal lines. So there is me holding a wheelchair with no way of
getting to my passenger.

I tapped on the window and told the man that he couldn't park there, that was not a
parking space. He said, " I am handicapped." He slapped his sticker on his review mirror
and said, "it may be expired but I am still parking here."

Now I must say I usually have my temper pretty much under control, but I will admit I lost
it with this JERK! When he got out of his car and came towards me that didn't help matters.

I was not a lady. He finally said, "I will move over but I am parking here."

After struggling to get my Mother-in-Law out of the car, we proceeded into the Dr.'s office.
This jerk followed us in. He asked me who my employer was. I asked what business was that of his.
He told me that he wanted to report my conduct to my employer. The nurses told him to leave the
office. A little old lady asked me is I was for hire to take her around since she had to rely on the Bus.

The whole part about this that made me so angry was that I lost my temper. You hear about Road Rage
and snicker, thinking how silly. But I guess it happened to me.

Oh, the diagonal blue lines...
They are there as a buffer next to handicapped spaces so that people who have wheelchairs can
open the doors wide. In other word, Do Not Park on Blue Diagonal Lines!!

I have been advised that what I should have done was to call the police. Costly fines are in place
and are issued to people who abuse the handicapped parking spots. Expired stickers mean nothing,
and never park on Blue Diagonal Lines.
