Internet Marketing - Three Rapid Ways to Build a List
When you are just starting out in internet marketing, you will hear and see all sorts of different and sometimes conflicting advice about what you should do first. There is however, one thing that you should consider as a major priority, because it will eventually be the key to your ongoing success and money making ability. You must build an opt-in list, of people who will receive regular e-mails from you and later become your customers.
It costs very little to get started and the sooner you begin, the bigger your list will become over time. Here are three quick methods to get your list off the ground.
Method #1 – Give something away. Everybody likes a freebie and if the cost of a freebie is simply to give you their name and e-mail address, then most people will happily make the exchange. The easiest and lowest cost thing to give a way is information. Write a few ‘How to’ articles on your area of business, gather them into a little e–book for people to download, or make them into a short autoresponder course that they will get over five or seven days.
If your business sells tangible items, consider offering a free sample or heavily discounted basic item, in exchange for their contact details. Make it interesting and they will respond.
Method #2 – Affiliate marketing. When you’re starting out, you probably don’t have a product to sell, so start by selling someone else’s product. Run a simple Adwords campaign and build a one page website where you review the product you are promoting. Tell visitors why they should take a look at the site you are about to redirect them to, with some brief but compelling sales copy.
At the bottom of the page have an opt-in form for your newsletter and when they have filled this in and pressed submit, they will go straight to your affiliate product. Make sure they get there through your affiliate link though. If they do buy it, you want to make sure that you get paid for.
Method #3 - Co registration. Research e-zines, websites and forums in your area of business and send out e-mails to their owners, suggesting that you would like to work with them on a co-registration campaign. Explain that you are building a complementary, but non-competitive list and that you’d like to share the marketing costs.
For those who agree, you will simply set up your opt-in forms, so that potential subscribers are given the option of getting your free gift and your partner’s newsletter at the same time. That way you both get the benefit of each other’s marketing spend and your list will grow faster, for less money.
Finally, once you have your first subscribers, don’t let them slip away. Your task now is to keep giving them useful, compelling content via e-mail, so that they get used to seeing your name in their inbox and they look forward to your information. Once you have built that loyal relationship, you can gently begin to sell to them and if you do it right, you can keep on selling to them for life.
