Enjoyable Trip to Amritsar Golden Temple and the Wagah Border
We here in Amritsar in the late afternoon after a long travel day followed by a jeep followed by a train. Once checked in our hotel we made bicycle rickshaws on board and the road to the Golden Temple, the holiest place of worship for Sikhs. It is an impressive place and is beautifully lit at night. We reached on time to see the daily ceremony where the Sri Guru Granth Sahib is transported from the temple to the Akal Takhat for the evening. We have also experienced the "free kitchen", a communal dining room where everyone, regardless of race or religion, can eat for free 24 hours a day. It is a great operation where they are constantly eating and taking care of food.
The next morning we returned to the sunrise temple, although we got a mistake and arrived a few hours early. It was actually drier right now than it was in the evening and was full of worshipers. At one point as we sat at the edge of the holy pool, we looked around and saw that everyone was standing opposite the temple while the kangers drove over the loudspeaker. It's just a great place and it's ready to finish the troop. The troops are ready. The troops make it difficult to describe the atmosphere.
That night we went to the border between India and Pakistan to see the infamous border barrier. I find it safe to say that this is the first time we have ever gone to a border crossing without the intention to move. Not only that, we also brought our cameras and largest telephoto lens to document the opportunity. Try that at every other border in the world; Leave a boundary between two nuclear powers that do not like each other very much. The daily Wagah border closing ceremony is usually a patriotically loaded spectator sport that attracts about 20,000 people a day on the Indian side. The Pakistani side is nowhere as present or as rough as the Indian side. One can draw a number of conclusions from this observation, but we will leave it.
As we approached the border, we described what accurately describes as a "full body massage" as crowds of crowds are pushed by multiple safety bottles. Men and women are divorced and control points have little to do with security and are more about getting people who have become frenzy. On Finally, we finally went to the VIP department for foreigners just before the ceremony began. It was definitely an experience and when it was over we even got the chance to join one of the guards. These guys are super long!
So after our very short and conscious visit to Amritsar, it was back to Delhi on the overnight train.
