This topic is very important for the current medical and nursing practice because rising obesity is a critical problem for health care services and it also gives rise to many medical problems like diabetes, hypertension, cardiac disorder, hormonal imbalance at an early age. It is very important for the health care services and practitioners that they provide an early intervention to this rising problem. In children obesity has doubled to its previous percentage in last 15 years. In year 2012 one out of every 3 children is overweight or obese in developed countries like UK. Medline
First data base which is searched for this topic is Medline which appears to be an authentic source of information and research articles. Medline is an extensive collection of verified published material and they are specific regarding medical and health related topics Key words which are used for search earlier are UK, Obesity, Young people which brought out a lot of results. Further search was refined and key words include UK, Obesity, children, solution and articles regarding tackling of this issue were identified and searched. I have reviewed approximately 5 articles after this research and identified that all these articles were recently published and highly relevant to the search key words. All the articles identified the problem specifically and critically and provided logical conclusions.
Proquest Nursing Journal
Second data base search was done with Proquest and the key words which were used are obesity, young people and UK. They are the same key words used in Medline but this time I arranged them in another order. Data base came up with a lot of results and links which included articles, news paper publications, journal articles, books, medical research reports etc. Further i have refined the words into Key words like obesity, life style disorder, child hood obesity, type 1 diabetes and type 2 diabetes, population of obesity, community health care etc.
Evaluation of Evidence Base
Articles which are found in the searches collectively provided these evidences and identified the root cause of the rising obesity in young population of UK. Most of the research studies were mixed research studies which include both primary and secondary research component. Secondary research project includes literature review and case study analysis as the main tool for data collections. Primary research includes live data from the respondents which can be used to assess the current development in obesity problem on a global scale. Studies can be cross sectional or longitudinal in nature as well. Longitudinal means studies will be done over the long time period to assess the developments over the time.
Evidence and Recommendation list
1. Yes sufficient number of articles and peer reviewed research papers were found on the database regarding this problem and its growing impact all sectors of health care services.
2. I have found sufficient evidence to orient my practice towards a more preventive action. I would now look for such symptoms more closely among patients in my practice and counsel them for an early intervention. According to different experts obesity as a problem is caused because of individual carelessness and lack of activity or it can be a problem because of changing social determinants which is forcing people to take up a sedentary and inactive life and increasing their obesity levels.
3. There is still gap in identifying different ways to tackle the issue without impacting industry as well as technological advancement. These technological advancements are making the world a very small place for people and enabling them to do everything they want to do without moving anywhere. Such developments might be helpful in getting work done or getting information but for physical health and fitness they are proving to be a disaster and causing various life style disorders including obesity.
