Jasper Reports

Tibco jaspersoft is open source and easy to learn.  Business users can create reports, sub reports.

It requires basic knowledge of MYSQL queries.

Steps for creating simple jasper reports:

Start jaspersoft ireport designer.

Select New from File Menu.

Select Report and Choose Template.

Provide report name and Location (Path) where it will be created.

File extension is .jrxml.

Provide the SQL query to select fields from MYSQL table. (Here, It is assumed that all fields are text fields). (Note Data Adapter needs to be created)

Click on Next.

Report designer has following sections:

Title, Page Header, Column Header, Detail, Column Footer, Page Footer and Summary.

Select Fields from left and Click on Next.

In Group by, Select Fields if you wish to group records by field.  (Here, we are not selecting any field for group by)

Click on Finish.

Drag static text from palette and provide report title.

In Column heading, drag and drop static text from palette and give field titles.

In Detail section, Drag and drop text field from from palette.  Right click and select expression editor, delete default text, From Fields select particular field.  Example, $F(studnm)

Click on Preview.

This should display simple report.
