Save bookmarks online

Do you want more than just tags and a few notes to go with your bookmarks? Enter Diigo. When you save bookmarks online to Diigo your saves go anywhere because they are saved to the cloud. Sounds mystical doesn't it?

The social part is because you can make your saves public and share the wealth of knowledge with others. Say you are a science teacher. Your fellow science colleagues can go and view your saves because you have made them public.

Adding a Diigo Bookmark to the Outliner Research Tool and Tagging

• You can create outlines for different projects.
  
• You can share bookmarks with groups when you're bookmarking it.

Using the Diigo Outliner Tool to Plan

• Use your tab key to indent and shift tab to out-dent your outline.
  
• You can turn in a public link when you are done.
  
• Click on a line in your outliner and press tab.
• Hold down shift and press tab and see what happens.
• Use your mouse to point at the bullets and drag something around in the outliner.
• Type something in the outliner to see how it works.
  

TIP: You don't have features to change the font or format. I'll show you how to export this to a wordprocessor to make this fancier if you want to.

  Diigo Followers are people who will get updates when you post some new material. Really, you need do nothing more than write good articles to court future followers. Still, you'll need a tool like Get Free Followers - which will promote your Diigo profile to a large userbase!

  Social bookmarking is the modern student's research tool. Diigo is also very educator friendly. They have educator accounts specifically geared towards getting K-12 teachers to use their service, so they have lots of educators who view and share their bookmarks. This is also what most of our users are!

What I am using Diigo for

Diigo is an incredible versatile tool and will help you with most of your needs. For some, this might include sharing their bookmarks and annotations, or exploring what other people are saving into their Diigo library. However, I am not really using Diigo for discovery and sharing. Maybe I should, but I believe that services that are linked in with twitter, facebook and pinterest are much more suited for this. Simply because they are more widely used. However, your milage might vary, especially if you invest some time into building your social network with other people on Diigo (see my upcoming post on Diigo for power users – coming soon).

I am using Diigo foremost in "private" mode: as my own personal internet library. Call me anti-social if you like, but I am not a big fan of people knowing what I am highlighting, Since these are often related early research interests of mine, I want to rather keep my highlights under the covers. Diigo lets me keep my stuff private, which is great.
