To eat
Muscat is a foodie delight and you should not miss tasting Omani food. If you're a fan of slow-cooked meats, Shuwa is marinated lamb cooked in a sandbox for several hours and often served as a festive meal in homes. Most traditional restaurants have this on their menu. Alternatively, Mishkak is a popular street snack; Grilled meat skewers are cooked on a charcoal grill. You can try them at the stalls in the Qurum district, Muscat.
Popular with locals is Rozna, a traditional Omani fortress with closed sections. It is perfect for intimate family meals. It is recommended to stew date juice, a fish dish, and Kabuli rice with potatoes and meat.

For a more authentic experience, visit the local Nizwa souk, two hours from Muscat. Even today, the pottery and spice markets are home to alleyways lined with old shops and cafes.
