Mistakes Every Clothing Photographer Should Escape
Clothing photography is similar to product photography. People will tell
you how to become a good clothing photographer but not everyone will
tell you what mistakes you should avoid. Let take a look at a few of the
mistakes one must escape from:
- Didn't
edit the product image correctly
It's best to keep all the cuts, alignments,
and backgrounds in your inventory identical, frame by frame.
- Failure
to set correct colour space profile
Many apparel photographers forget or
don't realize the importance of converting edited photos into ready-made web
profiles for colour space or not. A colour space is a specific range of colours
that can be represented in an image.
- Not
using correct camera settings
If your camera settings are wrong, your
images can look professional without any Photoshop experience. DSLR cameras can
produce very high-quality photos, but the wrong settings can drastically reduce
this quality.
- Too
little light to carry
Bright lighting should be one of your
biggest concerns as an online clothing retailer. Ensuring images are displayed
correctly will accurately display colours and other product details and keep
your inventory looking clean and professional. All outfits are different and
the availability of the right lighting allows customers to appreciate the
unique aspects of your outfit.
- Not
enough images provided
Contrary to popular belief, a photo or
two of each product is not enough to give customers an accurate picture of the
profitability and quality of your inventory. Therefore, it is important to
provide customers with as much information as possible about each product by
uploading at least 3 images per product - preferably 5-10.
- No
use of mannequins
Many clothing photographers overlook
the importance of conveying shape and form to customers by photographing
clothes worn by mannequins. Instead, they just organize clothes or take their
photos on hangers. It’s a big mistake! Doing ghost mannequin
photography or doing photographing clothes on a live model is almost
always the best way to show the shape of the item.
- Not
preparing clothes
Preparing clothes for a photoshoot is
the main starting point for taking photos of clothing, but many clothing
photographers skip this step and prefer to rely on Photoshop to remove
wrinkles, blemishes, and other problems that arise with storing or transporting
the collected product. It is important to examine your product carefully from
top to bottom, inside and out. Iron or steam.
