Nobody wants a pest problem at home!

This article explains what you might be doing to attract pests. If food, water or shelter are easy to obtain, you may get pests.

Easy Access to Food

Don't leave food lying around either indoors or outdoors near your home.  For instance, crumbs left overnight on a worktop or table are very enticing for mice and flies. Make sure your bag of bird seed is in a sealed container.  Mice will happily chew through a plastic bag or cardboard box to get to some delicious seeds.

Ensure bin lids are always shut securely.  An open bin outside can attract mice, rats and foxes.

A Comfy, Warm Home

Clutter in your home, such as a pile of paperwork, cardboard boxes or clothes left on the floor can make great shelters. Easy access to sheds and outbuildings are also attractive to pests.

Enticing Gardens

Overgrown gardens will attract lots of wildlife including pests so keep an eye out for rats, foxes and squirrels that can cause damage to your home. If you are feeding birds, ensure only small birds can get access to the food.

Easy Access

The first step to keeping pests from entering your home is making sure there are no entry points. This could mean filling cracks and holes in walls or window frames. Seal pipes joints properly where they meet utility lines with fencing materials like metal flashing. It’s also vital that you replace any missing tiles on the roofline which will provide easy passage into homes.  The mess a squirrel can make in a loft is shocking and wasp nests can become huge.

If you do have a pest problem, please call your local pest controller before too much damage is done. Anglo Scottish Pest Control provide pest control services in Edinburgh.
