DNA Tests can be conducted in many different scenarios. Some people opt to conduct DNA tests at home, and some prefer to have a skilled lab technician to conduct the test.

The selection of the test is a personal decision and at times depends on the location of individuals and reason for the test. It is most challenging when individuals are in different geographic locations or are in different countries. However, the science of DNA has become very sophisticated, which makes the testing possible no matter where individuals are based.

The most common DNA test procedure is to use a saliva sample. The test is conducted by using a swab to sample the tissues of the donor’s cheek. The analysis of the cheek swab is then put through a scientific procedure to determine the genetic markers of the individual. Those genetic markers determine relationships between individuals who are tested.

Test results can vary between 3 – 4 business days to 1 week or more depending on the complexity of the test, location of individuals and when the samples arrive at the laboratory.
