If you want to keep your working life as pleasant as it could possibly be, then you should learn how to be on the good side of your boss. This may sound really easy and simple, so it is surprising to learn that many of us still make the same mistakes that make them not favored by their employers.

The way you communicate with your boss can actually determine how well he or she will think of you. There are certain things that you can say or do which could lead your employer to think that you’re immature, incompetent, and not willing to cooperate. And as you can imagine, these are traits that no boss would ever want in an employee.

Here are some of the things you could say to make your employer want you to consider changing jobs:

“It wasn’t my fault!” – Not taking responsibility of something is a childish thing to do. As a professional, you have to admit your mistake, take responsibility, and be the one to address the issue. Employers value workers who can be the source of a solution and not the problem.

“It is not my assignment.” – Although there are tasks that are assigned directly to you, it doesn’t mean that you should not be willing to take on other tasks. It is important that you be willing to cooperate and show that there is nothing you cannot handle.

“I really cannot stand my co-worker.” – No employer would want to spend time to address personal issues among their workers. If you say you don’t like a particular person, it is just like saying you don’t like your team as a whole. Your ability to deal with diversity and differences with your coworkers is a strong sign of your professionalism and maturity.

“I’m too ill to go to work.” – There is no reason you should go to work if you are too sick to do so. But you have to make sure that you will not make this as an excuse if you just don’t feel like going to work. Your boss will soon find out about this lie, and you wouldn’t like the consequence of this.

“I’ll quit if I don’t get a raise.” – If you are having financial troubles, don’t put the blame on your boss. If you have been in the company for a while and you think you deserve a raise, there is a proper way to do it. Threatening your employer will not do you any good. You may even be surprised that he will let you go on with your job change plan.
