What are Small Form-Factor Pluggable Transceiver and Its Types?
SFP (Small Form-Factor Pluggable) transceiver is a compact, hot-swappable device that can be used for both transmit and receive data and also plugs into a physical port of a network device. It is used in the communication network and has a transmitting side and receiving side. The SFP transceiver has a laser which communicates with the receiving side of the other optic on the other side.
SFP transceiver is designed to support several communication standards that are SONET, Gigabit Ethernet and Fiber Channel and their interfaces on a networking device such as a router provides a modular device that can be freely adjusted to fiber optic and copper networking specifications.
The SFP transceiver is also known as miniGBIC and it came into existence later than GBIC (Gigabit Interface Converter) and serves the same purpose as GBIC module but, due to its smaller size it has replaced the GBIC in most applications today. It has multi-frequency user interfaces that support all products and the DWDM SFP was created to accept DWDM SONET / SDH with or without FEC for links and Ethernet /fiber protocol channel of traffic to the link.
- 10G SFP TransceiverThis transceiver module refers to 10G SFP Plus transceiver and it is known that SFP+ is an enhanced version of SFP that supports data rates up to 10 Gbit/s. and the number of standards for 10 SFP have been released, 10GBase-SR id for OM3 multimode optical fiber for relevant maximum SFP working distance 300 meters and 10GBase-LR is for single-mode optical fiber for relevant working distance 10km and 10GBase-LRM is for FDDI multimode fiber for the relevant SFP plus working distance 220 meters.
