VW Scandal Lawsuit: Volkswagen Class Action Attorneys Offer Free Consultation
Thousands of people have joined a class action lawsuit against VW since September 2015, when one of the biggest automotive scandals in history became public.
In mid-September, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) revealed the car manufacturer had installed software on certain 2009–2015 model year 2.0 litre Volkswagen and Audi diesel vehicles to circumvent emissions tests. This software, called a “defeat device", detects when the car is undergoing emissions testing and changes its performance to comply with the emissions standards. Consequently, the hacked VW cars meet the standards in the laboratory or testing station, but actually on the road, emit nitrogen oxides (NOx) up to 40 times as much as the Clean Air Act permits.
At the first thought, it might seem that the emissions scandal has been exaggerated. The violation of emission standards may appear to be rather negligible as it does not present an imminent threat to health or safety. However, the scandal holds some worrisome consequences for VW vehicle owners. While VW Volkswagen claims to be working on a recall right now to fix the vehicles affected by this scandal. For the newest models, the fixes will likely be software updates, but older models probably need additional components installed. So, a fix could still be months away. Furthermore, bringing the cars into compliance with emission regulations may bring compromises in fuel economy, performance, and/or reliability, as well as affect negatively the resale value.
Currently, there are already over 34 class action lawsuits against VW in progress, seeking to gain monetary compensation for diminution of value of owners' cars. VW vehicle owners whose cars could be affected by the scandal are encouraged to seek legal advice in order to determine their eligibility and pursue legal action against VW.
As of right now, there are eight vehicle models that may have been manufactured with a defeat device. In the United States, these vehicles include:
2009-2015 Audi A3 2.0 L TDI 2009-2015 VW Beetle 2.0 L TDI 2009-2015 Beetle Convertible 2.0 L TDI 2009-2015 VW Golf 2.0 L TDI 2015 VW Golf Sportwagen 2.0 L TDI 2009-2015 VW Jetta 2.0 L TDI 2009-2014 Jetta Sportwagen 2.0 L TDI 2012-2015 VW Passat 2.0 L TDI
