Things to remember before choosing the best Floor Tiles.
Believe it or not, the floor tiles in your house matter a lot. Tiny details come into play when we talk about choosing the floor tiles for a house. Not only this, the different parts of the house have entirely different set of requirements when it comes to a perfect flooring. The availability of a gazillion options in the tiles market only makes it even more confusing. From hardness to porosity and from porcelain to ceramic, there is so much to choose from. In this post, we are going to try and make this choice of floor tiles simpler for you. Let's go ahead with the first point:
1. Tile size and the Room size.
The tile size and the room size have a big role as to what floor tiles are being chosen for what part of the house. For example, small sized tiles are more suitable for smaller rooms of the house like kitchens, washrooms and toilets. For the larger rooms, however, the larger tiles will be the right way to go. The larger tiles make a room seem larger that what it is in most of the cases. Also, light colored tiles tend to make smaller rooms feel much larger.
2. Tile Hardness
Tile hardness can be a very important factor too
in selection of floor tiles. This tells us how the tiles and it’s aesthetics
will behave in case of wear, foot traffic and scratch. There are various
metrics and standards to measure this. One of those are Porcelain Enamel
Institute. However, you can test the hardness for yourself by just manually
scratching the surface.
3. Porosity
Porosity is another important factor that you must remember before choosing the floor tiles for your lovely home. The tiles are classified into 3 types based upon porosity. These are:
● Impervious - An absorption rate of 0.5 percent or less.
● Vitreous - Water absorption rate between 0.5-3 percent.
● Semi Vitreous - Water Absorption rate between 3-7 percent.
● Non Vitreous - Water absorption rate more than 7 percent.
4. Color
This one's quite obvious. Color of the tiles are a very important factor while choosing the floor tiles for your lovely home. One thing to remember here is that the color should be coherent and must resonate with the design patterns on the floor tiles.
5. Grout
The lines and designs can be emphasized if a contrasting grout is used. Grout with a complementary color too, can be a great idea because of their subtle effect.
