When half term gets closer many parents have the decision of what to do in that week off school. Not long enough for a holiday abroad but still time to do something fun somewhere. One great option is to use it for trips to the Isle of Wight. There is a lot to do there, parents can enjoy it as well as children, there are activities as well as beaches to enjoy. Just getting there is part of the adventure. Watching the ferries and waiting to get on your one as you head to the island! Here are some ideas for some great days out when there.
Rich for a dinosaur hunt!
If you have children that love all things to do with dinosaurs this is a great place to take them. The Isle of Wight has a history of dinosaurs, fossils hunting and there are some great places you can go to look for your own. There is also Dinosaur Isle to visit, a great museum and something you can enjoy when the weather might not be co-operating! There is a lot to see and do, lots of hands-on activities and a chance to meet and talk to real paleontologists. The building is shaped like a large dinosaur too!
Various animal parks
Another option is to check the many animal parks throughout the island. There is Amazon World Zoo where the children can see rare and exotic looking birds, piranha and crocodiles and a lot more. You can get a ticket included as part of a day return ferry travel. For something more hands-on for your trips to the Isle of Wight there is the Seaview Wildlife Park. Children and parents have a fun but also educational day and there are several opportunities to have close personal contact with some animals. A large collection of birds, reptiles, and mammals live there. Visit with the wallaby, the meerkats, the penguins and the otters, watch the owls and birds of prey in action, visit the monkeys.
Theme, water and adventure parks
If you have older children or want something a little more exciting there are also several theme parks, water parks and adventure parks. The oldest theme park in the UK is Blackgang Chine on the Isle of Wight, which was built in 1843! It is a top attraction on the island. Lots of rides, roller coasters, a water slide and more. Great for children of all ages too with a mix of style and size of rides.
Conclusion
Whether you are heading to the island for a day out your kids will remember for a long time, or, for a week of fun and adventure, you will find there is something there for everyone. The Isle of Wight sees visitors from all around the world for good reason. On the ferry ride, home parents and children will be tired but completely happy and with some great memories to treasure.
