Preschool Activities at Home
Introduction
As a parent, you know that sometimes the time spent at home can be more difficult than the time spent out of the house. It's easy to feel like you're stuck in a rut and doing the same old thing every day with your little one. But why not change things up a bit? Here are some ideas for activities you can do with your little one while at home that will get both of you excited about spending time together!
Here are some ideas for activities to do with your little one while you're at home.
These are some of the things you can do with your child at home to engage his or her imagination, get them involved in the world around them and give them a chance to interact with other children.
These activities are good for kids aged two years old and up:
Playing together on the floor, with your little one sitting next to you or on your lap
Showing him/her pictures in books and talking about what's happening in each picture
Making up stories together (if possible, have your child write down the story he/she makes up)
Identify the Colors of the Rainbow
Color identification is a great way to teach your child about the world around them, as well as the rainbow.
Color identification is a great way to teach your child about color mixing and how different colors can be combined to make new ones.
Color identification is a great way to teach your child about the color wheel and how each color is related to one another.
Sing The ABCs
Some of the most popular preschool activities are ones that are easy to do at home. One of those is singing the ABCs. Singing the ABCs is a fun way to learn and teach the alphabet in English, Spanish, or any other language!
You can sing “The Alphabet Song” or another song with a catchy tune for your preschooler to learn how to sing it in a fun way. Once he's learned his letters, try printing out some coloring pages from our coloring page section on our website so he can practice writing them too!
Play Musical Eggs (and other musical games)
Musical eggs is a preschool game that will help your child learn the concept of cause and effect. It’s also great for encouraging kids to use their imagination. All you need to play this game is a set of colored plastic Easter eggs and some music (or use a phone app).
To play, place one set of plastic eggs on the floor in front of your child. Play music and encourage him or her to dance around them as fast as possible without breaking any eggs! When the music stops, see if he or she can avoid breaking all the eggs before they fall on top of each other.
If you don't have an egg handy, you can make this activity more challenging by using mini rubber balls instead—they bounce off surfaces much better than plastic ones do!
You can also add multiple sets of musical toys for even more fun—and don't forget about using different types: drums work great when paired with horns; bells sound best when paired with chimes; maracas are great with tambourines...
Play "I Spy" with Shapes
I Spy is a game where one person looks at a picture or object and describes it to their partner. The partner has to guess what they are looking at by asking questions about what they see in the picture. For example, if you were playing I Spy with shapes, you might describe a red triangle as "a big red shape."
The game can be made more challenging by adding new criteria for guessing (e.g., "can't have more than 3 sides"). It can also be made more fun by including a few extra details about the object being described (e.g., "it's made of paper"). And finally, it can be made more educational by using specific vocabulary words along with describing the objects (e.g., "the shape is called 'triangle', and its sides are called 'sides').
To make this game even more physical, try having your child move around while he/she narrates his/her thoughts aloud while looking at an image or object near him/herself instead of just sitting on the floor! This helps build confidence while also allowing kids' brains to become familiar with certain words used during playtime activities such as “red” or “paper."
Learn Spanish
Learning Spanish is a great way to help your child learn their letters, numbers and sounds.
Learn the Spanish alphabet
Learn the numbers from 1 to 100
Learn the days of the week and months of the year in Spanish
Learn different words for colors in Spanish, such as blue (azul) or yellow (amarillo)
Teach your child numbers using flashcards or singing games like "Head Shoulders Knees & Toes" but replacing knees with cinco!
Make a Homemade Playdough
Making your own playdough is an easy activity that can be done with very little mess or effort. You’ll need the following ingredients:
1 cup flour
1/2 cup salt
2-3 tablespoons oil (cooking spray works well)
Water for mixing (about 1/4 cup or so, depending on how firm you want the dough to be)
Optional ingredients include food coloring and glitter! Then simply add all of these ingredients into a large bowl and stir until thoroughly combined. Then let it sit at room temperature for about 30 minutes before using your homemade playdough! The longer you let it sit, though, the more firm it will become—so if you want something softer, mix in some more water before letting it sit out again instead of waiting too long between batches.
Make a Peanut Butter Bird Feeder
Use peanut butter. Peanut butter is a great way to attract birds, and it's also not poisonous to them.
Use birdseed. Birdseed will also attract birds, so you can use this instead of peanut butter if you prefer. The downside is that it'll be harder for the bird to eat since it's not spreadable!
Use a pine cone. Pine cones are naturally hollow inside, but you could use an artificial one if yours have been harvested by squirrels or other animals in your area (or maybe yours just aren't available). You should fill one half of the pine cone with peanut butter or birdseed and leave the other half empty so that birds can perch on top while they eat their meal!
Use a small plastic bottle: A small plastic bottle like those used for water or soda bottles makes an excellent bird feeder because they're easy to open up once tipped over by hungry little mouths, who then fly off with their prize when done feasting upon its contents--or maybe this happens at night when no one is looking? Either way works! Just make sure there aren't any sharp edges left over from cutting out holes for drainage holes before using as part of your project today; otherwise someone might get hurt if they try picking up something heavy without thinking first--and we wouldn't want that happening today would we?
Learn about Rocks and Minerals
Rocks and minerals are very important to the earth, but their origins can be difficult to understand. They have been formed by the elements of the Earth, such as air and water.
Rocks and minerals can be grouped into three categories: igneous, sedimentary and metamorphic rocks.
Igneous Rocks form when molten rock cools within Earth's crust. The most common types of igneous rocks include granite, pumice (a light-weight rock), basalt (dark gray or black)and obsidian (volcanic glass). Basalt is a type of volcanic rock that forms when lava cools quickly on land or under water.. It forms layers with time in eruptions which are called flows because they flow like lava does when it comes out of volcanos. Some examples include flood basalts which cover huge areas such as those found in Columbia River plateau in western Canada or Deccan Traps located in India/Pakistan region that covers an area greater than France
Help make the time at home more fun!
At home, there is a lot of time that your child doesn't have to entertain himself. This can be great—it allows you to focus on getting other chores done or taking care of yourself when you need it—but it can also make it easy for him to get bored and restless if he's not given any activities or toys. The trick is to do something fun together in order to keep the energy flowing and prevent frustration later on. You don't have to plan out every minute of the day, but it helps if you're always thinking about how much fun your child had during this time period so that he'll look forward to whatever comes next!
Make sure everyone has eaten breakfast before playing outside (or doing anything else!)
Play games with each other at night before going into bed: hide-and-seek works well here because everyone gets involved even if they aren't very athletic; another option would be charades.*#ENDWRITE
