Taking care of your teeth and gums is important for your overall health.  A good set of teeth makes you want to smile and gives a boost to your self-esteem.  Lack of proper care of your teeth can result in your teeth becoming sensitive to hot and cold.  Taking care of your teeth is fairly simple and does not require expensive equipments or gels.  All you need is a toothbrush, toothpaste, and dental floss.  Regular care of your teeth takes up very little time once it becomes a habit.  It basically consists of brushing your teeth with good quality toothpaste every morning and night, so that bacteria do not have a chance to feast on the remnants of food between your teeth.  Bacteria thrive on these food particles ultimately causing caries.

Reasons for Having Teeth Sensitive to Hot and Cold

Dental caries is usually seen on the top part of the teeth and also in between your teeth.  These are the areas that are constantly in touch with food particles.  Bacteria develop in these areas feasting on the sugars left over from the food you eat and converts it into acids.  These acids in turn erodes the enamel on the teeth and makes tiny holes or cavities, which if not taken care of immediately soon becomes large enough, so that you begin to have teeth sensitive to hot and cold.  At this point, the tooth also loses its ability to regenerateits calcium and phosphate naturally due to the breakdown of the enamel of your teeth.  Dental caries has to be treated with fillings, crowns, root canals, and ultimately extraction if all the other methods fail to save your teeth.

Awareness of the Mouth and Body Connection for Healing

Teeth loss also results in inability to bite into your food and eat properly.  You lose your quality of life as you can suffer from bite misalignment and inability to speak or communicate to others properly.  People who have lost their teeth are afraid to smile openly for fear of exposing their toothlessness.  Teeth falling out could also be an indication of a secondary problem such as heart disease, diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis, or oral cancers.  The holistic approach to healthcare today has made physicians and dentists more aware of the mouth and body connection.  It also lays great importance to basic care of your teeth with brushing and flossing daily to prevent diseases of the teeth such as gum diseases and teeth being sensitive to hot and cold.

Importance of Good Oral Hygiene

Gums are prone to infection because the immune system gears up to fight the bacteria attacking your teeth and makes the gums inflamed.  As long as the infection is there, there will continue to be inflammation which will eventually cause diseased gums and affect the bone structure that holds our teeth in place.  This inflammation can also have detrimental effects on people who have diabetes as it will affect the body’s capacity to keep the blood sugar under control.  The enamel erosion from the teeth and receding gums will ultimately lead to your teeth becoming sensitive to hot and cold.
