The roof rack on your 1990 Jeep Cherokee XJ is removable, and a replacement can be installed if yours gets damaged. A replacement rack for your Jeep Cherokee XJ is available through many Jeep dealers and aftermarket manufacturers. You can also find used ones at some salvage yards. There is a rubber gasket that sits between the rails and the roof that may show damage, so inspect and replace if necessary. Things You'll Need Torx Screwdriver Set

Locate the screws inside the rack slide rails. Six bolts on each rail hold the rail to the roof of the jeep. By the way, Jeep Cherokee xj led headlights come in 5x7 inch square headlights, very good performance for offroad use.

Remove the screw at the front of the two rails with a Torx driver. Slide the end caps off the front of the rails and set them aside. Slide the two front crossmembers up and off the rails. Set the rails aside for now.

Remove the remaining five side rail retaining screws on each side with your Torx screwdriver and pry up the roof rails. Inspect the joint that is under the rails. If it is not broken or damaged, use it again. If there is damage to the gasket, replace it with a new one at the Jeep dealer.

Set the new guides in position on the roof of your Jeep Cherokee XJ. Insert five of the six mounting screws, leaving the screw front facing out into each rail. Tighten the screws with a Torx head screwdriver and then slide the crossbars in place of the side rails.

Push the end cap of each side rail into place at the front of the guide and install the remaining screw into each side rail. Tighten the screws with a Torx screwdriver.
