How to Choose the Perfect Pallet Jack?
The
health and safety of your employees is of the utmost importance in every
business today, not only to protect them from personal injury but to reduce
injury costs to your bottom line. Undoubtedly the most common place for injury
is in the warehouse where most of the lifting and movement of stock takes
place. This means that if you stock a warehouse, you must have a cost-effective
way of moving stock in and out with minimal risk of injury. By far the cheapest
and most reliable way to move stock is by using a pallet jack.
There
are two different types of pallet jacks Melbourne commonly used today, the simplest is the manual jack which is ideal for use in warehouses where pallets are mainly stored at ground level, the manual pallet jack looks like a dolly with a dolly on the front. There are thorns at
the end. The operator moves behind the manual jack, controlling the direction
of the jack with a simple steering mechanism. The forks slide under the pallet,
and the operator uses a lever to gently operate the lifting mechanism on the
device. A manual pallet jack is used to move elevated pallets to a new location
on the warehouse or plant floor.
Here
are some questions to ask you when purchasing the pallet jacks Sydney.
The first would be how heavy a stock you carry. As a guide most jacks on the
market are designed to lift 2500kg, which will generally cover most warehouse
uses as carrying more than 2500kg will be beyond most storemen.
The
next question would be "What is the floor surface it will be used
on?" The main reason I ask this question is because pallet jacks are
available with either polyurethane or nylon wheels. Polyurethane wheels are
suitable for shopping centres, tiled floors, marble floors, wooden floors as
these wheels will not mark. Nylon wheels are tough and suitable for concrete
and warehouse floors, but they will mark.
Finally,
you will notice that if you look around the warehouse you will see that the
pallets themselves come in two main different widths. These are often grouped
into Euro or standard pallets. Euro pallet
jacks are designed with hooks closer together (typically 450-570 mm)
than the standard 685 mm apart. If you intend to use popular cheap or cheap
pallets then you will get standard jack but if you are using euro pallets then
euro jack will be more useful. The only exception is if the jack is to be used
in the back of the truck where space is at a premium. Euro would probably be
the best option in this case.
