On Friday, May 21, the fuel rates have been hiked across the metros after a gap of two days. The petrol and diesel prices were raised by 19 paise and 29 paise per litre respectively.

It is the eleventh time since May 4, when the state-owned oil companies ended a hiatus in rate revision that was observed during assembly elections. As per dynamic pricing, OMCs revise the pump prices of petrol and diesel on a daily basis.

Amongst the metro cities, Petrol and diesel prices are the highest in Mumbai. However, with today’s hike, it has inched even closer to reaching the century mark.

According to reports, Central and state taxes make up for over 61 per cent of the retail price of petrol and about 56 per cent of diesel. The Union government levies INR 32.9 per litre of excise duty on petrol and INR 31.80 a litre on diesel.
