Fiberglass Pools — A Proper Look At The Manufacturing Process
Pools made from
fiberglass are not totally curvy structures. They will never look like those
curvy plastic bowls. Rather, it’s a structure made from a single piece
fiberglass material. That’s where the shine and class lies. Comparing the
structure with a vinyl liner pool, then the later comes with metal or plastic
wall panels, vermiculite or grout pool bottom, and vinyl liner on top of the
structure. Now, if you look into a concrete pool, it comes with a cage of steel
bars being encased in concrete covered plaster. Comparing these three products,
the best option would be definitely pools made from fiberglass since they are
less complicated to build and promise better lasting scenarios. These pools
comprise of shells having six different layers of fiberglass being melded
together.
Pools made of
fiberglass are basically constructed from a mold in the factory. That’s the
primary reason behind the non-availability of much customization options in regards
to shape and size. There is not much option when it comes to fiberglass pool designs.
The molds are basically made from fiberglass and then reinforced with the steel
bars. A nice looking fiberglass swimming pool will feature bright red-orange or
blue-yellow mold underneath followed by a layer of pool shell over the top of
it. No type of construction of the shell inside the mold is carried out.
Questions to ask the manufacturer prior to the pool molding process
· Is steel being reinforced to make the mold stronger and durable?
· Is the mold perfectly leveled and true to the condition?
· What type of finishing style does the mold have? Is it smooth enough?
The Gel coating
Once the pool is
in the ground and ready for swimming purpose, it’s the inside finishing part
that remains visible before the users. Speaking about the inside coating, it’s
basically a certain kind of gel coating being applied that hardens through the
process of polymerization. Because of this, the coating is often referred to as
gel coating.
The gel coat
promises the highest form of durability and super smooth structure. It’s also
algae resistant that help in maintaining the quality of the product for a
longer duration without the need for high maintenance.
Focusing on the resin
Whenever we apply
chopped fiberglass, the process is done through mixing it with either polyester
resin or vinyl ester resin. The presence of resin works wonders for the
situation. It works as a great adhesive to stick the fiberglass pieces to the
surrounding layers of the pool shell. The resin acts as a glue to the
fiberglass’s paper. Once mixed properly and applied together, it will help in
keeping the pool shell remains in best of shape with perfect support.
Fiberglass pools
go through two different stages of manufacturing and installation. Unlike the
vinyl liner or concrete pools that are constructed while being installed, the
fiberglass counterparts are actually made in the factory. Then, the pool shell
is being transported to the site and installed in a few weeks’ time. Due to
this reason, the installation process is also shorter than other options
available.
