Facial Feminization Surgery for the Upper Face
Facial Feminization Surgery for the Upper Face
Facial feminization surgery refers to a set of procedures that help make a face more
feminine. This process usually involves highlighting the cheekbones, making the forehead more round, lowering the hairline, narrowing the jaw and nose, etc. Cosmetic surgeons focus on
procedures of both the upper and lower face for the best, most natural-looking
results.
First, let us understand the differences between male and
female upper faces:
● Males have larger foreheads than females
● Male brow bones are conspicuous and project outwards
● Male eyes are more deeply set in and eyebrows are
placed lower
When women present with these features, they usually opt
for upper face feminization. In this article, we want to share the feminization
procedures for the upper face.
Upper Face Facial Feminization Surgery Procedures
There are four main procedures done to feminize the upper face. Surgeons
perform all facial feminization surgery procedures under general anaesthesia.
They include:
Forehead Recontouring
Forehead recontouring alters the bone structure of the forehead region. To make the face more feminine, it is needed to remove the sharp edges and
bulges that are seen on a male forehead. This
changes a flat masculine forehead to a soft, rounded female one. The bone between the eyebrows protrudes considerably
in men. This is also addressed by the removal
and inward repositioning of this bone.
Forehead recontouring is often done alongside jawline contouring for that desirable
heart-shaped face. Especially if the female has a broad forehead and jaw, this
combination is ideal, producing very natural-looking results.
Brow Bone Recontouring
Also known as orbital recontouring, brow bone recontouring
addresses specifically the area around the eyes. Male faces have a conspicuous
brow ridge, present around the top and sides of the eyes. Females have smooth brows without this ridge.
Brow bone recontouring involves smoothening down this
ridge for a more feminine look. Your surgeon usually performs this in combination with forehead recontouring
through the same incision for superior
results.
Brow Lift
A brow or forehead lift involves reattaching the muscles and tissues under the eyebrows to a higher
position on the forehead. This procedure
removes wrinkles, creating a more youthful appearance while also lifting the
eyebrows for a more feminine look.
For women with high foreheads, surgeons sometimes use the
hairline incision. The cut is made
where the hair meets the forehead skin. From
here, they can lift the forehead and eyebrows without adjusting the hairline.
The incision is closed with fine sutures, and the results usually appear within a few weeks.
Scalp Advancement
During scalp advancement, the surgeon brings your hairline
forward to make your forehead appear smaller. They do this by removing a small portion of your forehead skin after
making an incision along the hairline.
If you have thinning hair, you may prefer a hair
transplant over scalp
advancement. But for women with an abundance of hair, scalp advancement works
well.
