Exploring Gurudwaras of Chandigarh
Chandigarh is mostly referred to as a
well-planned city but its sacredness is often neglected. Its is the capital
city of Punjab, which means spontaneous presence of the Sikh community all over
the city and with Sikhs, come Gurudwaras, the worship places of Sikhism and the
resting place of their sacred book, the Guru Granth Sahib. While the people of
the cleanest city of India are quite educated and modern in their thinking, at
the same time they have strong relationships with their religion, faiths and
beliefs. This strong belief has given rise to a number of magnanimous
Gurudwaras all around the city, which are a spiritual treat to watch for every
visitor.
Here are a few Gurudwaras around the city
that you must visit:
Khooni Sahib Manimajra:
Located in the Manimajra village, Bhains
Tiba of Chandigarh is this beautiful Gurudwara, in close proximity with the
Mansa Devi temple. Guru Gobind Sahib is said to have visited this place, where
a Brahmin girl used to serve him. Prior to leaving Manimajra, Guru Sahab ordered
a temple to built in the name of this devotee servant, before the Gurudwara.
Nada Sahib
On the banks of river Ghaghar, in the
Panchkula district of Punjab, is the Nada Sahib Gurudwara. It is believed that
Guru Gobind Singh rested here after winning the battle with the Mughals. A
great follower of Guru Sahab stayed here and Guru Sahab named the Gurudwara
after him as Nadu Sahib.
Amb Sahib
This Gurudwara in the Phase VI of SAS Nagar
was visited by the 7th Guru, Guru Har Rai Sahab, in 1659. This
Gurudwara is thronged by thousands of devotes on Sakrant in January. A mango
tree, located in this gurudwara, bears fruit even in winters, as ordained by
Guru Har Rai Sahab.
Baoli Sahib
An aged devotee of Guru Gurditta ji
meditated at this place which made Guru Gobind Singhji pay a visit. It is
believed that this old devotee asked Guru Sahab to end the thirst of the
villagers and Guru Sahab shot an arrow in the ground, giving rise to a Baoli (A
well with a staircase). People take a dip in this Baoli on every amavas night.
Koohni Sahib
This gurudwara was actually called Bageecha
Sahib and despite its rich history, it is one of least explored Gurudwaras near
Chandigarh. It is said that Guru Gobind Singh ji visited the place to meet Mata
Raj Kaur, the wife of a sikh who had extended support to Aurangzeb. Mata Raj
Kaur left her husband in Dehradun and lived here. Guru Sahab visited her and
rested here on his elbow. This is how the place got its name “Koohni” Sahib.
While you take a dip in the spiritually
rich history of these Gurudwaras, you’ll need a perfect stay to complete your
trip. The Lalit Chandigarh is one among the top 5 hotels in Chandigarh, if
not the best. It is also the first choice for event venues in Chandigarh, making
it a perfect fit for your business trip cum spiritual outing.
